"My mother says I didn't open my eyes for eight days when I was born, but when I did...the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked."
~~ Elizabeth Taylor, 1932-2011
When I heard the news about Elizabeth Taylor yesterday, I realized how little I knew about her. As the glowing tributes and memorials began to hit the web, I was introduced to a truly glamourous, talented and generous woman who lived an amazing life. She leaves an impressive legacy, not the least of which is this list of her top 10 movies and the fact that she won two oscars! I had no idea. And for someone who loves history and all things vintage, I was astonished to realize that I hadn't seen a single one of her movies! Nor did I realize that she starred in the original Father of the Bride movie. I had no idea that Steve Martin's 1991 version was a remake! Where have I been?
Having said all that, I did know she had been married eight times to seven men...and for that reason, I have chosen to celebrate my new found admiration for Elizabeth Taylor by sharing some of my favorite images of her as a bride, as well as the trailer for Father of the Bride, which I fully intend to watch now...along with her other top 9 films.
You can find images sources for these photos and more vintage brides in my Vintage Brides collection on Pinterest.
And now for the movies....
Thanks for the memories, Liz! You will be missed...
