Something sweet to start the week...I've always liked Zooey Deschanel as an actress, but until recently, I had no idea that she could sing too. As it turns out, she is an incredible singer/songwriter. Her band, She & Him, is one of my new favorites. I found this sweet video while working on last week's "In The Sun" post and fell completely in love with it. I hope you enjoy it too!
Thank you EarthHour.org for all you do...excited about this year's campaign! I've pledged to turn my lights off along with hundreds of millions of other people around the world in a global call for action to reduce the effects of climate change.
And I'm really looking forward to sneaking downtown to watch the lights go down on the city of Seattle...gives me chills to think about it.
There are many ways to get involved, so be sure to check out the Earth Hour website for loads of tools and resources. Knowledge is power people!
Get kids involved here with interactive games and kid-friendly content. Twitter users can also show support by "turning off the lights" on their profile pics...go here to learn how.
Check out the great video below and be sure to help spread the word! What are you doing for the planet today?
To say that I am uninterested in basketball would be an understatement. So, when I saw that this week's EcoEtsy theme challenge was March Madness, I almost skipped it. Then I reminded myself thatI'm trying to establish a new blog and possibly a loyal reader or two so I decided the show must go on.
And I'm so glad I did! I only found a few picks in my TeamEcoEtsy search for anything even remotely basketball related, but it did spur a broader search for vintage and eco-minded basketball themed wedding ideas that I've pulled together for you to enjoy!
CHUCK TAYLOR WEDDING FASHION
I'm particularly smitten with brides and grooms who wear Chuck Taylors. They are a subtle (and comfortable!) nod to basketball's heritage. They come in tons of fun colors and did you know you can even customize your own pair?
Be sure to check out my gallery on Flickr where you can view more of my favorite Chuck Taylor Brides.
*You'll
also need thank you notes...how cute would these cards be filled in with
various wedding gifts...leading to the gift giver's gift as the
winner? Tongue in cheek, but oh so sweet.
BASKETBALL WEDDING DECOR
For this, I'm loving vintage sports memorabilia! Why not embrace "something old" in your wedding decor? Do you have a sporty older relative who may be able to share some treasured photos or momentos? If not, you may be able to find some treasures on Ebay, Etsy, or in local thrift and antique shops. After the wedding you'll have a wonderful collection to display in your home...or give away your props as thank you gifts to your bridal party.
This repurposed basketball hoop would be a great focal point for a guest book table display or head table centerpiece. Or how cute for a small seating card display?? If you could find more of these, they would also be great to hold table numbers or photos on each table. Can't find old ones? Use new ones and then donate them to a school or kid's sports league after the wedding.
I'm feeling special love for vintage trophy cups...these versatile pieces would be great as vases for your table flowers or even as a cake topper! Again, you gotta love thrifting or antiquing to find these things...but if you don't, feel free to drop me a line and maybe I can help you out. :)

DON'T FORGET THE POM POMS!!!
What would a basket ball game be without the cheerleaders? Give a subtle nod with flower pomanders or tissue pom poms. The color combinations are endless so you can coordinate with your team colors or stick to something neutral. I love them for flower girls, hung on chairs or suspended "en masse" from the ceiling.

BASKETBALL WEDDING FAVORS
Be sure to thank your guests for coming with these playful favor ideas...useful and/or consumable is my favorite way to go...
*Biodegradable water bottles made of recycled plastic...custom printing included! Find them here. Try filling them with chocolate basketballs found here.
*Referee whistles are fun with a color coordinated lanyard. Have a uniformed referee pass them out to guests as they leave or try tying one to each favor...just be sure to hand them out at the end of the reception unless you want to be listening to whistles blow all night. These are really inexpensive and can be found here.
*Customize jersey and basketball cookies with your names and team colors. Etsy seller TSCookies has them fresh here.
YES VIRGINIA...THERE'S EVEN MORE BASKETBALL WEDDING INSPIRATION:
If you're still looking for ideas...there is actually a Brides and Basketball Wedding Show! Someone had the great idea to pair up local wedding professionals with the NBA to put on pre-game wedding shows at stadiums across the country. Tickets include a basketball game after the show!
And last, but not least, the lovely folks at The Knot have created a special website just for sports fans dedicated to all things Sports Weddings.
Thanks so much for sticking around for the show! And thanks to my friends at EcoEtsy for the inspiration this week! I hope you enjoyed this collection of ideas and found one or two you can use. You are invited to share your own ideas in the comments section below and feel free to share photos if you decide to adapt any of these ideas for your own basketball themed wedding or event.
Well, what a fun treat! One of my flowers was featured in this beautiful dark and edgy treasury this weekend. I generally don't consider my work to be either dark or edgy, but it just goes to show that there's more than one way to look at just about anything.
The subtitle of the treasury was "The velvety touch of the darkside" and it was curated by SlightlyCrookedHook from "the flip slide of spring." I'm honored to be a part of it and honestly, it makes me feel just a bit cooler to be considered somewhat edgy. ;)
My new personal favorite from this collection is the Versaille Silk Shoulder Wrap from Countessa. Love that cerise color!!
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Hope you're all wearing green today... This is week four of sharing my EcoEtsy Theme Challenge
picks. If you missed my previous posts, this is my way of expanding on the
theme and sharing some extra love with my EcoEtsy teammates.
Now that I've been messing around with this blog for a few weeks trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, I've decided to keep tweaking this weekly post to more closely align it with my blog's core focus which is really "all about weddings...and then some."
To that end, my EcoEtsy theme picks from now on will not only reflect the weekly theme, but they will also tie back to weddings and celebrations! I think this will be a fun way to highlight some really creative ideas for weddings and celebrations that are totally stylish and still easy on the earth.
So, without further ado, I present my EcoEtsy theme picks for an Irish or St. Patrick's Day themed wedding:
Lucky Gnomes & A Cake Topper
I fell head over-heels in love with these sweet little gnomes. The colors, the braided pig-tails, tiny shamrocks...what's not to love? Wouldn't these be adorable gifts for a flower girl or ring bearer?
Here's another set that is done up as a cake topper...swoon...doesn't get any sweeter.
These recycled wool sweater purses make me smile. They remind me of old Irish wool fishermen's sweaters...only way more stylish. What bridesmaid wouldn't love one of these as a sweet thank-you gift and keepsake of an Irish themed wedding? Or get one for yourself for the honeymoon in Ireland!
Last, but not least, these recycled beer bottle earrings are modern and cool...and a nice reminder of all that great Irish beer you had at the wedding! Tie them on to a 6-pack of Guinness or a bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream and you've got yourself a bridesmaid gift that will not soon be forgotten.
Being included in an Etsy treasury is always an honor. When someone has the entire world of Etsy right at their fingertips and can choose just 12 items to feature, it is an amazing feeling to be one of the 12 chosen.
Right now I'm loving this beautiful EcoEtsy treasury by La Chiffonniere called "Eco Garden." Anny chose a beautiful collection of springy watercolor hues and was sweet enough to include one of my altered purses. I love the whole collection but am especially smitten with this little vintage toy rake. XOXO Cindi
The biggest thrill I get as a designer is when one of my brides shares photos of her wedding. Check out these gorgeous photos I recently received from Grace, who is wearing one of my magnolias...how stunning is she???
The photos in this album are of brides who I've had the honor and pleasure of working with. They have graciously opened the pages of their wedding albums and shared these gorgeous images from their weddings. If you would like to be included in this album, please feel free to send me your photos featuring your Brass Paperclip creations.
Welcome to the farm! This album is all about chickens and urban farming. Right now it includes photos from several urban chicken coop tours I've been on, but I will soon be updating to include photos of my own garden, chickens and coop.
